During the school year, the Utica Community Schools counselors...

  • Advise students one-on-one or in small groups.

  • Provide personal, social and crisis counseling.

  • Offer counseling support groups.

  • Plan individualized academic programs and schedules.

  • Review regularly studentsÕ academic progress and files.

  • Serve as a consultant to teachers regarding student problems.

  • Maintain up-to-date information on local referral agencies.

  • Provide a job referral board for students who wish to work part time.

  • Maintain their professional growth by attending conferences/workshops.

  • Provide informational presentations to parents and students.

  • Provide a list of tutors and learning assistance programs.

  • Discuss college and career opportunities with all students.

  • Coordinate the testing program and interpret test results.

  • Provide information on financial aid and scholarship opportunities.

  • Provide guidance to students in choosing high school classes.

  • Assist in identification and follow-up service to students with learning handicaps via the Individualized Educational Planning Committee process

  • Assist in providing accommodations in instructional experiences and testing for students eligible under Section 504, Title IX of the 1972 Educational Amendment and Americans with Disabilities Act.

  • Gather homework assignments for absent students.

  • Provide weekly progress report forms upon request for individual students

  • Publish counseling activities and programs in weekly notes and newsletters.
